Looking at ElasticSearch, Kibana and LogStash

Which look like a really powerful way to capture and visualise data. Here are the best links I found on the topic (i.e. tabs that I had open)

Gource Visualisation of "TeamMentor Git Development - 18 Months in 180 Seconds"

Here is a pretty cool video of 18 months of Git commits using the Gource tool which is a software version control visualization tool.

Try to see it in full screen and at 1024p HD quality:

Great Visualization presentation and style from Hans Rosling

From Arvind's Fantastic data visualizations post, here are two TED videos that show Hans Roslin's brilliant way to present lots of data, using powerful visualization tools and animation:

Cleaning Data with Google Refine

@austinogilvie posted this nice Cleaning Data with Google Refine entry where it shows the Google Refine (soon to be called OpenRefine) project in action.

Google Refine in their own words is: "...a power tool for working with messy data, cleaning it up, transforming it from one format into another, extending it with web services, and linking it to databases like Freebase...."

Nice visualisation and animation of graph data (from NYTimes)

NYTimes 512 Paths to the White House is a very nice way to present complex data (I wonder if we could use something similar for TeamMentor, OWASP or O2 Platform's content)

Glimpse : Amazing way to visualize asp.net mvc

Glimpse is a really powerful ASP.NET Server/Browser tool with very powerful features like ASP.NET MVC Route Debugging , Tracing in MVV, Ajax Support and extensibility

I have a bunch of places I would like to use Glimpse, but first I need to give it a test drive :)

Meanwhile, here is Glimpse in action:

Visualizing TeamMentor Link's structure (with Graphs)

Here is one of my TeamMentor related tasks for this week:

1) Find a big data visualizer/manager make prototype. Scenarios:
  • Show me structure of the library (directed graph, start from principles policies, filter external out) and let me manipulate the relationships.
  • Show me everything from this article (click on an associated article and you can move to that one) and let me add links to other articles and external links.
  • Show me external links that are broken.
Basically what we are trying to solve is how to visualize (and eventually manipulate) the links/connections between the multiple articles.

Brilliant visualisation (circa 2008): Zoetrope: Interacting with the Ephemeral Web

This video (from 2008) is probably one of the most amazing visualizations of data that I've ever seen.

The toolkit that these guys have is out of this planet and it's crazy that this research project from Adobe seems to have been dropped (there are no other references to this project or technology since 2008)
